Where Is the Outrage Over Elvira’s Manipulation of You?

Were I truly cynical, I would inquire of the very charming Irish priest — is there any other kind, for those of us who remember Barry Fitzgerald? — if the Catholic Church was going to canonize her before Saturday.

As I read the newspapers, Elvira (I Am a Bad Mommy) Arellano is on the fastest track in modern history to roar from Ex-Con/Runaway Mom status to Sainthood.

An Obvious Boost

With a huge unsubtle assist from the liberal sob-sisters in the mainstream media, the cowardly illegal alien who has been hiding out in a Chicago church for a year, rocketed to Most Admired Woman in America status this week by “deliberately” getting herself arrested and deported to Tijuana.

Still another clipping for her trophy case.

Instead of being scorned for flaunting American law and for flamboyantly abandoning her gimmicky trophy child, who has kept her on the fringes of the news, Senora Arellano is being cheered in liberal enclaves across America this week.

A Peek at an Illegal’s Tactics

The lady’s line of reasoning, her fail-safe route to instant celebrityhood, is wiggly but traceable.

Through enviably clever marketing that shrewdly targeted sympathetic left-wing news sources, the morally ugly woman has been hiding in broad daylight for the past year in a Chicago church. Building a case and an image, it is called.

Playing Hide ‘n Seek

Portraying herself as a martyr for immigration law reform while adroitly drawing a sheet over her undeniable criminal past and present, including abandoning poor Trophy Boy, Senora Arellano long ago herself into a cheap news whore. She is not a martyr, boys.

In our country, not hers, for the past decade, the Senora is sunning herself in the radiant glow of her second deportation.

Liberal journalists – in grammar this is called a superfluity — often are clever fellows who can find a way to disguise a bad guy as a good guy.

Cry on the Count of Three

All of the news stories and commentaries I have seen this week, locally and nationally, have been written by Senora sympathizers.

To demonstrate how far American journalism has slipped morally, the Senora’s fabulously successful quest for martyrdom was reported from an old reliable perspective. When all else fails, brand the person a helpless victim. It will fool nearly every reader.

The Associated Press has become notorious for disfigured reporting in recent years, and the wire service delivered again this time.

It is Hankie Time

Instead of reporting the story in the traditional, objective method, “Elvira Arellano, an illegal immigrant, was arrested…” the A.P. preferred the flabby but dependable equivocation defense —“on the one hand, and on the other hand.” The A.P. casther as a suffering, proud, noble figure who has matured into the Princess of Persecution.

Corrupting an Honorable Term

When she cooked up her own arrest and eviction from our country, the Chicago Tribune, in Senora Arellano’s faux hometown, produced this headline:

“Activist Arrested in L.A.,
Deported to Tijuana, Pastor Says.”

The cheap news whore is an “activist?”

That is tortured reasoning.

As a onetime father-in-law used to crack, “Are there no prisons?”

Starring Senora

Senora (I Am a Star at Last) Arellano ran around Tijuana yesterday, doing interviews with “human rights” types and reporters, bragging that she and her handlers contrived last weekend’s whole arrest-and-deportation scenario.

“Everything was too quiet,” the Los Angeles Times reported she told a talk radio show in Tijuana. The Times’ headline, accurately reflecting her heroic welcome before she sneaks back here again, called her “the Toast of Tijuana.”

Memorizing Her Heartfelt Lines

Without peeking at her prepared script, the little lady “complained” that American immigration law needs to be reformed. It breaks apart families, she said, after strategically leaving Trophy Boy behind to gin up support for her cause.

This is as phony as wrestling, as fake, as orchestrated as the pro-illegal alien marches here last year.

Do You Like Being a Puppet?

You, we, are being manipulated — also in broad daylight. Many of you are saying, “Do it again, Sam.”

Does only something ephemeral bother you?

Where, I practically beg, is the outrage?
