The West Los Angeles College baseball team has five games remaining in the season, and Coach Bob Grant’s goal is to keep the team positive and make sure they learn from their mistakes.
“I want to see the natural progress,” he said after their 11-7 loss to first-place Los Angeles Mission College last Saturday. “I want them to play hard and continue to get better.”
Mission swept both games with West last week but Grant saw some positive developments.
“You hate to say you played well after a loss, but we did,” said Grant. “We battled, and the kids are still competing. We outhit Mission 12 to 11. We were down 9-2, and we closed it to 9-7 going into the ninth inning.”
The Wildcats play at the College of the Canyons in Valencia tomorrow at 2:30 and on Friday they are home at the same hour against Bakersfield College.
If West expects to win remaining games, their pitching and fielding must improve. Their hitting is getting better.
“Our bats are coming along,” Grant said. “We need to recruit better and so we can bring West Los Angeles baseball up to the next level.”
