War Games

This despicable tactic is as de rigeuer as the terrorists’ Halloween masks and their civilian clothes, which allows them to freely accuse the U.S. and Israel of attacking “civilians.”

For those of us who take religion seriously, it is particularly disappointing when a co-religionist volunteers to become a very public dupe. Our subject is one Rob Eshman, the proudly secular editor of The Jewish Journal, the lone Jewish weekly in Los Angeles, the second largest Jewish community in America.

A Dark Tale for All

Believe me, you do not have to be Jewish to mourn the open-faced seduction of the most malleable Jew I have encountered in decades.

A Jewishly useless Jew, a shanda, an embarrassment, to the Jewish people, especially because he is a public, therefore influential, figure.

Smart? I Don’t Think So

If Mr. Eshman’s objective were to disprove the historical principle that all Jews are inherently smart, you may write down his name in the category marked “Exception.”

An enlightened liberal, he professes to believe there is no good or evil in the world, that each side in the present worldwide clashes merely favors slightly different nuances in moral values.

Feh, he says, with all of the accompanying arrogance that has marked dupes throughout history.

Ain’t No Bad Guys — Just Us

He is a brutally humiliating figure, not for his far-left political views, but rather for rejecting the demonstrated claim that Arabs, and especially Muslim extremists, mean to wipe out his people, my people.

Mr. Eshman probably confuses Jewish history with scenes from the current hit motion picture, “Knocked Up.”

At the Vortex

As the face of the only Jewish newspaper of note west of Chicago, he is uniquely positioned to be feted regularly by Jews in Hollywood. He is, and he writes frequently about how he is awed by them.

In the large political picture, his Paris Hilton intellectual persona scarcely matters. But knowledge of it is helpful in understanding his thinking apparatus.

He is a student of the non-judgmental school.

The Refuge of Scoundrels

He appears to be a frequent participant in “interfaith” and “intercultural” programs, staged all along Seduction Alley.

These watery-eyed displays of faux erudition are designed by scholarly types who have dedicated their lives to convincing audiences that traditionalists in every religion represent the true threat to world “peace.” They enjoin their fellow devout secularists to help them rescue civilization.

Mr. Eshman becomes most shrill when defending visiting or local Muslims who have found him to be the owner of at least two sympathetic ears, no matter how radical their claims.

There Now, Don’t Worry, Child

In the same fluid gesture, he pats his fellow Jews on the head, urging them to be still and not continue to make Muslim terrorists (who barely exist) mad.

Here is a remarkable passage from his essay in the current edition of his newspaper:

“We (Jews) also tend to cling to our orthodoxies without challenging them. And one of those orthodoxies is that the West is facing imminent destruction at the hands of extremist Islam. Too easily this idea, which is in itself arguable, poisons our understanding of all Islam and our relations to all Muslims.”
