The Culver City High School girls basketball team drew a bye for the first round of the CIF Division 2A playoffs that start this week.
The fourth-seeded Lady Centaurs will play their first game on Wednesday, Feb. 20, time and location to be announced.
The 21-5 Centaurs enter the playoffs with a six-game winning streak. The big question for the Centaurs is, did the weak Ocean League get them ready for the tough CIF playoffs?
Culver City’s last two games in the Ocean League were a close 33-31 victory over the second-place Hawthorne and a 66-30 win over Beverly Hills. Hawthorne was the only team in the league that gave the Centaurs any real competition.
Orange Lutheran is the top-seeded team in Culver City’s division, ahead of Murrietta Valley and Patriot. West Torrance, the No. 5 seed, also drew a bye this week.
Centaur coach Julian Anderson will rely on Alexis Aquino, Joy Bell, Kaylee Contreas, Kate Lin, Gwen Machado, Kate Suyesugu, Kelli Tademaru, Taylor Tanita, Lindsey Tanita, Kailey Tooke, Kelsey Ueda, Megan Yoon and Shannon Yahn to try and win the championship.
