Coach Joe Manzo and the Culver City High School girls volleyball team have won the Ocean League championship, and the CIF playoffs begin today.
The Centaurs made history. This is the first time since the last century that Santa Monica has failed to win the title.
Culver City’s overall record is 23-6, and they won all eight Ocean League matches.
Culver City is among the No. 1 seeded teams that include: Los Alamitos, La Salle, Santiago/Corona, Whittier Christian, Sage Hill, Hemet, Laguna Blanca, La Sierra Academy and Orangewood Academy.
A total of 313 teams have qualified into the 10 divisional playoff brackets. The single elimination tournaments started last Friday, with wild-card games .
The championship finals will be conducted in a two-day, two-location, 10-match extravaganza at Cerritos College and Santiago Canyon College on Friday, Nov. 22, and Saturday Nov. 23.
