I was introduced to Dr. George Colisimo, the team physician, at a football game by Culver City High School’s Athletic Director, Jerry Chabola, about 6 years ago.

During the games, I started sharing some of my digital pictures with him. He would, in his own unique way, critique them.

When I read about his untimely passing last week, the first thing I heard echoing in the back of my mind was his playful, irascible voice demanding to know, “Did you get the picture?”

I answered, “Yeah, I got it.”
Over the years, this turned into being a running joke after each big play or touchdown.

Did I get the picture?

Yes, I have the picture…a picture of a man who honed his physician skills and used them to help others enjoy their lives more.

A picture of a doctor who would attend most of the Centaurs’ home and away football games and thereby freely fulfill Culver High’s CIF requirement of having a physician present at each game.

Yes, I have the picture of him proudly wearing his immaculately cared for letterman’s jacket strolling the sidelines while cheering on the team.

It’s not going to be the same without him.

Yes, I got the picture, Dr. Colisimo.

And it’s one that I will always remember.
