Dateline Dayton — Now that Election Day has come and gone, it will be interesting to see if any changes will come from the voters speaking. Apparently many are not satisfied with what is taking place in Washington and across the country.
Obama’s Democrats have lost control of the House, and they will not enjoy the strong majority they did in the Senate. I hope that the changes will be enough to put a halt to the nonsense we have tolerated for almost two years.
The sad thing about this election is that we have few newcomers to the political scene. In most cases, all we were able to do was place politicians in different settings or bring some back to life.
It takes a lot of money to run a political campaign, and sometimes even a large amount of money does not insure victory, as evidenced in California. I don’t think our forefathers envisioned campaigns requiring the kind of money it now does to serve our country as an elected official.
Give Us Just a Tiny Clue
Another sad thing about the political campaigns of today is candidates seldom tell you how they are going to correct problems. They talk in generalities. They are great at pointing out the faults of their opponent, some possibly not even factual.
I did hear one candidate say he would work on a particular problem. In reality, that is all an elected official can do. One individual cannot solve all our problems. However, he can work with other elected officials to correct the problems.
I was surprised by the outcome of the governor’s race in California. Hopefully, Gov. Brown, being a Democrat, will be able to get President Obama to go out on the White House lawn and shake the money tree again, providing additional dollars for the state.
On another California subject, the situation with baby Vanessa — I have written about her several times —still has not been resolved. The Ohio judge in the case asked all involved (the impregnator, grandma and the adoptive parent) to work out an agreement, with no luck. I must admit, I’m very unhappy with this judge. It is so unfair for the child that this case has continued so long without a resolution.
My hope is that the child will be able to stay with a loving parent, Stacey Doss and not the deadbeat male (notice, I don’t use the term “father”), or grandma, who already is taking care of her son’s other children.
The Vote I Didn’t Cast
The case is supposed to be back in court, here in Ohio, the first part of December. This will be a stern test for the judge and the judicial system. Although I have always had a lot of respect for the judge in this case, he has lost my confidence and would not receive my vote should his name appear on a ballot.
On Election Day we voted on a Human Services Levy, which funds Children’s Services, the agency that has been supplying this male with free trips to California in the Vanessa case. I realize Children’s Services is only carrying out a dumb law, which dumb lawmakers made. However, , it is time to get these stupid laws changed. For the first time in my voting history, I did not vote for this levy for two reasons: They fund trips for deadbeats and they use organizations I do not approve of to purchase services, using the word “services” loosely.
By the way, I couldn’t bring myself to vote “no” on the levy, so I just didn’t vote on the issue, which carried by 70 percent. I guess I’m in the minority on this issue.
And Finally…
Please remember our veterans today.
