A Low and a High

Synthesizing the darkest and highest moments available to an aspiring politician, Mr. O’Leary announced this afternoon that he will spend the weekend in seclusion with his in-laws.

His father-in-law died this week, and it was an unusually painful death for the candidate and for his wife Susan.

Mrs. O’Leary has been at the bedside of her father nightly in Loma Linda for the past month.

When He Was Dying

“He suffered so much at the end,” Mr. O’Leary said. “He was off of food and water for the last two weeks.”

Viewing hours at the mortuary will be Saturday and Sunday, and the funeral will be at 10 on Sunday morning.

Instead of rushing to return to Culver City to make an appearance at the campaign kickoff, Mr. O’Leary said emphatically he will mourn with his family.

The Tone of the Day

He said that Sunday’s picnic-style event “will be a very casual time at the park.

“There won’t be a formal announcement so much as it will be an occasion for getting to know people. I want a strong group around me.”

Today normally would spark a major celebration for the very outgoing proprietor of Joxer Daly’s Washington Boulevard pub, near the Sepulveda intersection.

Ireland to America

Four years ago on July 26, the gentleman who owns the purest Irish brogue in Culver City officially became a citizen of the United States.

You never have to guess about his citizen status. He takes great pride in his transition to becoming a full-fledged American and, he is an advocate of its traditional ideals.

In addition to numerous obligations and distractions that had been anticipated, Mr. O’Leary also has been on jury duty this week.

The First Contender

With next April’s election for three seats on the City Council still a little more than 8 months away, the Irishman is the second entry in what is expected to be a crowded field.

City Clerk Christopher Armenta, whose elected position goes away next April, was the first to announce.
