“The installation of red light cameras had so much promise. They would deter dangerous driving, protect public safety and generate money for local governments” – Orange County Register
Bilge.
The fairy tale vision that ideologues held for red light cameras when they began sprouting late in the previous century either quickly evaporated or they believe the yarn about the moon and green cheese.

Take Culver City.
Evidently our town was one of the earliest true believers.
As of this morning, the city fathers and the cops stubbornly remain a proud member of the Ah Do Believe crowd, even when confronted with a mountain of contrary evidence.
City Hall has no idea how much revenue its red light camera system generates.
Worse, far worse, I would judge, the Police Dept. does not possess the foggiest idea of whether this has made intersections safer or sexier. Not the most remote clue. They have no such records. Just emotion, like their brothers at City Hall.
The funniest/scariest part of this woeful yarn is how little money accrues to the city from the expensive tickets. Does anyone care? It feels good.
That must be the objective. For this, they can return to the halcyon days of Ted Cooke’s legendary card games.
City Hall and the cops are acting like teenagers who have fallen into puppy love. When red light cameras are mentioned, the boys’ faces brighten as if she just strode by on her way to the beach.
Please don’t ask for lucidity. It is the enemy.
It feels good in both buildings to tell yourself you are saving lives and raking in hefty reveue for our town.
Wake up, boys. The dream, which it always was, ended years ago. You have been scammed, willingly.
