The West Basin Water Board has just closed its application period for appointments to the Division 4 seat left vacant by the May 20 retirement of former City Councilman Ed Little.

This seat is on the November ballot.

Some board members, however, want to fill it rather than wait for five months. This appointment will expire in December, before the newly elected board member would take office.

If this appointment does not occur, candidates to run for the office would have to file with the County between July 14 and Aug. 8. (http://www.lavote.net/VOTER/PDFS/CALENDAR_EVENTS/11042014.pdf)

Here are the candidates:

* Dave Atkinson (El Segundo)

* Scott Houston (El Segundo)

* Stephen Murray (Culver City)

* Steve Rose (Culver City)

* Jeff Ebenstein (West Hollywood)

It's likely to be a fast process that will be over by the end of next week. First qualifying interviews will be throughout the day on Monday with an interview committee composed of Vice President Gloria D. Gray and Board Treasurer Ronald C. Smith.

Seat 4 includes Culver City, El Segundo, West Hollywood, Malibu, parts of Lennox, North Ladera Heights, Bel Air, Topanga, View Park and Windsor Hills. The Inglewood oil field is also within the District.
