As Curren Price surges in the Los Angeles City Council race, mysterious, late night smears are being emailed to labor leaders.

“The Eastside” – As state Sen. Curren Price (D-Culver City) fights the hard fight for quality representation and good government in City Council District 9, those who prefer lesser leaders have sent out emails claiming the senator does not stand with working people.

Sen. Price's organizing capacity has caught some off guard who were used to less effective opponents. He was the last major candidate to enter the race – yet the first to qualify for the ballot.

Anti-Price forces have partnered to put a secretive email address together and send smear mail to local labor leaders.

The contents of the email are too offensive to fully mention. They miss the mark in many ways, namely that Sen. Price doesn't support working people. This secretive email was sent by cowards too afraid to unveil Sen. Price’s voting record, advocacy skills, firm commitment to building the middle class through local hire programs and jobs with justice.

Mischievous and libelous statements from an unassigned email account are the handy work of non-respectful outsiders.

These are people who would disrespect South Los Angeles and are new to local politics. The multi-cultural and intergenerational support for Sen. Price is based on a long history of service and advocacy for working people (A-plus California Labor Federation of Labor lifetime score).

Records matter. Sen. Price is the voice of working people. He has been for decades.

This is not a race for newbies or the untested. Skilled, trusted public servants are needed in the 9th District.

That is why the California Friends of the African American Caucus will monitor the race closely. We will work to ensure the senator is treated fairly.
