Let’s call what happened at last night’s City Council meeting “The Great Unfairness Hoax of 2009.”
Recent History: Last night, Andrew (Andy) Weissman became Culver City Mayor, elected for the fiscal year 2009-2010. Mr. Weissman succeeds Mayor Scott Malsin (2008-2009), who succeeded Mayor Alan Corlin (2007-2008), who succeeded Mayor Gary Silbiger (2006-2007).
The Hoax: Councilmember Silbiger was treated unfairly by his Council mates.
The Theatrics: Seemingly dozens of well-meaning Culver City residents took turns at the public mike in Council Chambers to voice their opinions that Vice Mayor Silbiger should become Mayor — saying collectively that “to do otherwise would be unfair and would break an unwritten rule.”
History Question: When was the last time a Council member became Mayor only two years after the time he or she served as Mayor?
