Dateline DaytonContinuing with our return trip home from Florida where my brother-in-law Willie and I traveled to help move my son Chris back to Dayton:

On Friday morning Chris was up early and fixed breakfast for Willie and me. At 7 a.m., his landlord arrived to help with the move, along with a helper, who works for him at his rental business. Since Chris didn’t have much and everything was packed, the trailer got loaded quickly. By 8, we were on the road.

First stop was to top off the truck’s tank and get a soft drink. This same station was our last stop on the way down because the fuel price was lower – and there was not an up-charge for credit. Later we stopped for lunch and again got fuel. Being that we are a little older, a necessary stop was worked in every now and then.

After Chris was on the north side of Atlanta, we placed him on mission, saying we wanted to eat at Hooters for supper. Chris never had been to a Hooters restaurant, and he was able locate one just outside of Atlanta. I suggested he looks for a Comfort Inn for our night’s lodging. They have double beds and a sleeper sofa in their rooms. Since we were a half hour behind him, he took advantage to get a room.

At Hooters, Chris ordered the chicken wings, which he said were good. I had a fish and chips basket, which I never had seen on the menu. Willie enjoyed his usual cheese steak. But it is so difficult to eat as a sandwich. Our first waitress was a cute little girl who, for some reason, had to leave. They weren’t very busy, and she might have been the one scheduled to leave under the circumstances. The girl who took her place was, shall I say, a Hooters gal?

Saturday morning, after an early and free breakfast at the hotel, we were on our way for the final leg of this adventure, stopping only for lunch and, of course, our necessary breaks. We arrived in Kettering, in suburban Dayton, a little before 6. Chris arrived 30 minutes before. Our son Jon came over to help unload the trailer. That went much faster than loading. Nothing had to be secured.

Meanwhile, Around the House…

I hope to get the garage organized so that Pauline’s car can fit back in before the snow flies. Actually it isn’t too bad. Chris’s items were placed in the center so that you can walk down either side. The first step will be to get rid of the stuff I have stored in the garage from the last time I set up at a flea market. Saying that, I have made arrangements to do a flea market (Shop ‘Til You Drop) this coming weekend. What doesn’t sell, except for the cash registers and NCR items, will be donated to Goodwill.

Chris kept busy all last week doing things around the house and getting ready for his first day of work, which was two days ago. This entire week is devoted to orientation, which he says is going well.
