I am doing it again. I can’t help myself. Ever since my return from my travels, I have been examining everything from my current projects and commitments to my relationships to the books on my bookshelf with a magnifying glass.

Each day I drop one or two more books into my donation bag. At the same time, I am “uncommiting” myself to musical projects, mentoring assignments, and aspects of my own routines that no longer serve.

As I add end dates and check marks to my “to be completed” list, I am allowing myself to experience for the first time the still air of the unknown void that is the natural result. In not rushing to fill the empty slots in my calendar — and psyche — I am replacing outdated commitments with as-of-yet-unimagined possibility.

I smell the sweetness of spring around the corner. This is my watershed.
