I now have more of an idea of what it is like to have a newborn. Only, I didn’t just give birth; my husband did.
We both thought that after the Yost Theater opened on Aug. 6, things in our lives would settle down. Not quite.
Two days after the opening, there was a kitchen fire. That following week, they were switching between being a venue heavily under construction by day to a thriving nightclub by night. The headlining band for last Saturday’s show, Thrice, almost couldn’t play due to structural work happening over the stage the day of the concert.
That is only what has been happening across the street. At home, I have heard all kinds of conversations at all hours of the day and night over emergency staff issues and operations snags amongst other things.
Every few days, schedules allow my husband and me to sit and enjoy a few moments together. At these times, there is so much happening around us that we just want to sit quietly, holding hands, watching our cat.
It is intense for sure. But, I am also seeing both of us moving beyond past perceived limitations into a new space. For that, I am excited… and a bit nervous.
