It seems that Robert Zirgulis, the School Board candidate, has latched on to one specific School District contingency plan for the Natatorium and is using it to re-energize his campaign. He is determined to employ every opportunity afforded him to shout from the rooftops, at anyone who will or is forced to listen, that the School Board already has decided to tear it down.
Disinformation
I have to inform Mr. Z and his group of ill-informed, misled supporters that the School Board has yet to find the gumption to make a decision on the Natatorium.
Clueless
I point out to the saner citizens more than one contingency plan is being considered for the Natatorium site. One of those plans decried by Mr. Zirgulis is among many options.
Contingency Plans
There was a plan to tear down the Natatorium to make room for much-needed parking. Another was to convert it into a two-story building with a small theatre and classrooms on separate floors. There still is a plan to turn it back into a beautiful, first-class pool facility, too.
No Day of Reckoning
Until the day comes when doing nothing to the Natatorium costs more politically than doing something constructive, the Natatorium will continue to stand as a monument to how community divisiveness among warring factions can paralyze local officials, thereby, the Natatorium as one of the largest, longest standing white elephants on the Westside.
