The Gift of a New Day

Dateline Dayton — Last Friday was the inspection on the condo we are purchasing to rent to our son Chris.  No real surprises.  We knew the electrical panel had to be replaced.  We couldn't get the dishwasher to work. There was a water leak when we opened one of the valves under the sink.  These issues must be addressed, prior to closing.

The unit has a relativity new furnace. However the air conditioning unit is very old.  This will present a problem at replacement time because it will require a new air handle due to the new refrigerant used in today’s air conditioning units.

We have asked for a home warranty on the furnace/air conditioning as well as  the appliances, to get us through a period before it becomes an expense to us.

On Monday, the seller’s realtor was provided with the post-inspection agreement.  They have 10 days to either agree to the fixes or offer to pay us the estimated cost of repairs.

On Tuesday we received the report from the appraiser, who agreed the purchase price was in line.  I was surprised how quickly the appraisal was completed.  When we were acquiring interim financing for the purchase of our condo, it took time to get the actual document, after the appraiser had completed his property inspection.

Your Biggest Fear?

On my favorite radio station yesterday, Bucks Braun’s question of the day was, “What is your biggest fear?”  Mine has changed over the years. I have always been concerned about my wife and children. There was a time I feared losing my job, which I did.  During that same time, there was always a concern about my health. What would happen to my family if I was unable to work?

While I remain concerned about my wife and family, my biggest fear today is President Obama, what he might still do to this great country.  He sure hasn't done anything to improve our country during his time in office. Some will credit him for improving the job market. It still could be much better. His polices and lack of good judgment are holding us back.  We need a businessman or woman leading our country, not a politician.

Sunday in our church bulletin, the following question was posed:  If you received an invitation from the President to join him and his family for Thanksgiving dinner at the White House, would you accept.  My answer is absolutely no if the President is Mr. Obama.  In no way do I want to show support or approval for a President leading our country down the wrong path, morally, financially, militarily, politically.

So Young, So Troubled

Tuesday, a 12-year-old girl killed herself by hanging, in school.  This took place in Xenia, eight miles east of here.  What could be so terribly wrong that a 12-year-old would want to end his or her life?  There were no outward signs of a problem in the child's life.

I don't know how, as a grandparent, I would be able to handle such a situation. Questions must be going through the minds of everyone in the girl's family.

Enjoy each day. It is a gift.
