Fortunately, Mr. Horowitz did not need to comb his hair at this moment.

When he glanced at the hotel room floor, he knew it was time to duck.

The following really happened on Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock on an upper floor of The Culver Hotel:

My housekeeper tells me that there is a “D—g” in the room.  With her accent, I believed I was going to see a little dog. Even though we are pet-friendly at The Culver Hotel, we do not allow dogs to stay with us overnight. We coordinate with the overnight Doggie Hotels adjacent to us to accommodate the all-fours. We take extra special care of the two-legged types (even when legless).

As I enter the room, a dove (!) flies up and lands on my head.  I give my phone to the housekeeper to take a photo.

But when I look down, I see …a duck!

Oh, well, you can imagine my delight, and consternation.

These feathered friends do not come alone.

They are always accompanied by their own mess. There was plenty.

I spoke congenially to the registered guest. She informed me that the duck was her pet. He usually wears a diaper.

The dove was rescued, and he was going to be let free very soon.

Well, we came to a mutually agreeable conclusion.

My return hospitality was offered to her, without her feathered friends.
