Dateline Dayton – Last weekend was our garage sale, and I am very pleased with the results.  I wish more of my items had sold, but I will have another opportunity to unload them when I join my sister and her granddaughter for a sale in Piqua one weekend away, June 7-8. For that event I will add some of Piqua items.

We had excellent traffic last Friday, our busiest day. Saturday was a little slow, but still a good day. Many were taking advantage of the beautiful weather on Saturday and worked in their yards. I was surprised at the traffic we had on Sunday. Two guys were there before we were opened, and there were a fair number throughout the day, although most were only lookers. They still were arriving while I was packing up, after four o’clock, and that was a good feeling.

A Time for Reverence

On Memorial Day, Pauline and I attended church, a beautiful service honoring the families of those who have members presently serving, those who have served and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Deacon gave the homily, which was outstanding,  the first time that a homily received a round of applause. Among points he made: We must stand up to the liberals who want to remove God from our lives.

After the service, coffee and donuts for all to enjoy, along with the fellowships. The service was for our three parishes, Ascension, Immaculate Conception and St. Helen’s and other guests. It was held at St Helen’s, with Father Dave, the former pastor of Ascension, presiding. The 4th of July service will be at Ascension, with Labor Day at Immaculate Conception.

At noon, Pauline and I, along with my sister and her husband, with a lunch stop along the way, traveled to Cincinnati to visit the newest and last of Ohio’s four casinos, a beautiful facility, with friendly help. Tim met us at the entrance and took us to get our players cards. We ran into him a couple times during our visit, and he always spoke, as did other members of the staff. None of us was winning, so after an hour and half we were ready to leave.

We ended our day with the four of us enjoying supper together in Dayton.

Today we are leaving for Michigan for our grandson Ryan’s graduation from high school. Just as with our granddaughter Ashley who graduated last week, Ryan is an excellent student. He’s an outstanding athlete, finishing fifth in the state for wrestling, played football, baseball and was great as the goalie for the school’s soccer team. He was written up numerous times for his exceptional saves.

Ryan has secured a summer job with a local tool and die shop, right up his alley. He wants to go into manufacturing engineering after college.

Till next week, enjoy each day as if it’s a gift. It is!
