Dateline Dayton – You may remember last week I told you about my grandson, Ryan Casey, climbing into a burning car to save a man who was trapped.

Ryan’s heroic efforts, along with those of his coaches, have been written about in three newspapers serving Niles, MI, and they have been interviewed by two television stations.

Ryan also received correspondence from the man who was saved.

By the time you read this, Pauline and I will be on our way to Florida for a week to visit our friends Darlene and Ray.

Our first stop will be in Atlanta, to attend an auction at Gallery 63, which is on the Discovery channel as Auction King. I will be taking a few items for them to sell at an upcoming auction since they did so well with what I gave them  back in September.

Once we leave the auction facility on Friday morning, we will be on our way to Venice, FL, arriving shortly after supper.

On Saturday, we will be joining Nan and Gale, (Nan is a stitching friend of both Pauline and Darlene) at their community center. There, we will be entertained by the orchestra of retired musicians living in the area. This activity on Saturday has become a tradition for us, an excellent afternoon of entertainment.

On Sunday, there is church in the morning. We will be celebrating St Patrick’s Day in the evening at a local establishment, followed, traditionally, by cards.

Monday we must attend Senior Day at an outlet clothing store. A ballgame is on the schedule for next week as well as a visit to a park.

For one evening we must have dinner with Joe and Pam, who also live in Venice. I worked with Joe in Piqua, my hometown near Dayton, while in high school and college. A few years after his military duty was completed, Joe and I became reacquainted, and we have remained in touch ever since.

Since we are vacationing, there will not be a Rambling essay next week. Complete details of our Florida vacation will start in two weeks, on March 28.
