A City Hall leader who did not want his name mentioned, disagreed with Mr. Corlin. This was another occasion, said the official, where beauty was in the eye of the beholder. The mayor did not blow an opportunity to blow Culver Citys horn. Wrong time, wrong place for a commercial for Culver City. The real star of this ceremony was the light rail project itself. This was the time to say exactly what the Mayor did say, Isnt it great that we are finally getting started? No one said anything about all of the little burgs that were there. Silbiger was right to say what he did.

For at least 19 more months, Culver City residents will be forced to endure the spectacle of Mayor Silbiger dueling with four colleagues on the City Council who disagree with him on practically every subject of consequence. The alleged bomb by Mr. Silbiger last Friday morning in the Crenshaw District at the very least ignited a dispute if not the frequent show of unanimity against the Mayor. For every resident, business owner or worker in Culver City, many of them envisioned the groundbreaking as a rare golden moment for Culver City to win the attention of the rest of Los Angeles. Since the exodus of the original studios, Culver Citys image has stopped considerably below that of other independent communities in Los Angeles County. Meanwhile, the disagreement over the proper speech for Mr. Silbiger is percolating.
