An Irrelevancy

Our School Board elections are non-partisan as political party affiliation is not relevant.

Enter our Culver City Democratic Club.

In recent years, the Democratic Club has sponsored forums where all candidates have had the opportunity to speak. History has shown that those elected to our School Board have to represent our children and not a political party.

Shocking Polarization

But it now appears that partisan politics is the sole goal of the Democratic Club. At the July meeting of this insular club, it was decided to limit their School Board Candidate Forum to Democratic Party candidates only.

When I was approached with a verbal invitation to participate, I was shocked at such narrow-minded and polarizing attitudes. I stated I would participate only if every candidate in this non-partisan election was allowed to speak.

The person who called me actually suggested that the “wrong” (read not a Democrat) candidate might vote to “burn books”!! That comment alone burned the bridge with me.

I Have Been Apolitical

For those who follow CCUSD School Board meetings, you have heard many of the ideas I have presented to the School Board eventually adopted by our District. Never has party politics entered into the picture.

As we face a period of tough decisions, decisions that could result in the curtailment of programs or even an elementary school closure, now is the time to hear from all candidates.

Listen to all the candidates. See how we envision the future of education for our children, engage us all at every opportunity and vote for the best candidates.

Our children’s education, our families, our school employees and our community depend upon your decisions. The Democratic Club should rethink its position and invite all candidates to participate.

Candidate for Culver City School Board
