Market and Home Searched

Sources told thefrontpageonline.com that Mr. Vera Jr. allegedly was in the midst of an attempted armed holdup at a store when he was nabbed.

Following an M.O. that police say he has used before, the suspect was said to once again be carrying a police sergeant’s badge from the Culver City Police Dept. along with a firearm.

In quest of stolen goods, authorities later searched the suspect’s home and the popular ethnic market on South Sepulveda Boulevard that his parents have operated for the past 45 years.

Sources told the newspaper that the search yielded a sawed-off shotgun and “an unknown small (personal use)amount of methamphetamine.”

Police sources said that at the home of Mr. Vera Jr., “authorities found evidence of a large burglary ring to which he may have belonged.”

Just the Latest

The younger Mr. Vera has been involved in a series of skirmishes with the law in recent years.

Last seen, Mr. Vera was reported to be in the custody of the County Sheriff’s Dept., in West Hollywood.

The County District Attorney’s Office said this morning that no charges yet have been filed.

As usual when Mr. Vera Jr. collides with the law, a wall of aggressive silence is thrown up around the case.

“The family is trying to keep this hush-hush,” a source told the newspaper last night.

The suspect’s father, Albert Vera Sr., who has had his own troubles with the police, is regarded as one of the best politically connected persons in Culver City and perhaps all of the Westside.

The high-level wiring has served the Vera men well, sources said, in the years just before and just after Mr. Vera Sr., a longtime City Councilman, was forced to the political sidelines by term limits.
