Dateline Dayton – Last Saturday started the way most of them have lately, working in the garage. My intention always is to have the project completed by the end of the weekend. Not for the first time, my goal was not accomplished.
Even neighbors are monitoring my progress. One lady told me she was impressed with what I have accomplished. She is a talker. It is difficult to get much accomplished when she is here.
Saturday afternoon we visited the Montgomery County Recycling Center to drop off fertilizer, which I never will use. From there, we drove over to a recycling event at Fifth Third Field (home of the Dayton Dragons), where they were recycling electronics. Participants received a Dragons tee-shirt and entry to a drawing for prizes, including a VIP experience at a future Dragons game.
Blow Out the Candles
Saturday was also the birthday of Pauline's brother. After an afternoon of recycling, we drove to Walnut Creek to visit Joe at the facility where he has been recuperating. On the assisted living side, where he should be, they had a party for him. He received notes from many of the residents. In rehab, where he presently resides, they attached balloons to his wheelchair.
In the evening we attended the Dayton Horse Show, at the invitation of our financial advisor. A very elaborate affair, large tent, snacks, and a great meal.
The horse show was nothing like it used to be. Years ago, the company I worked for had box seats at the horse show and our family went often. There were many entries and a large crowd. This year, there was only one entry in some classes, and our little group outnumbered the people in the grandstand. This event formerly was a fundraiser for the Dayton Shrine Club. The Shriners no longer are involved.
After church and breakfast on Sunday, we were off to a Dragons baseball game. Bad day. After a six-game winning streak, they lost 13 to 2.
Our son Chris joined us after the game for pizza at Marion's, where they were celebrating their 49th anniversary, by offering 49 percent off your pizza order. Marion's is known for their great pizza. Anyone who leaves the Miami Valley must have a Marion's pizza upon returning.
This weekend, we will be attending my 55th high school class reunion. On Sunday, the Washington Township Fire Dept. (our fire service) is having an ice cream social. You know what that means: Another weekend will pass without completing my garage project.
