Dateline Dayton – Yesterday I left for St Charles, IL, to attend the Cash Register Collectors Club meeting and swap meet. My friend Howard traveled with me, as usual. This time we needed to leave a day earlier because the club’s swap meet was early this morning. I took a few items to sell, but I expected little activity. Probably is the wrong attitude.
We will be busy this afternoon with a meeting, and tomorrow morning we will visit the parking lot of the Pheasant Run Resort, checking out goodies for sale. Normally, a fair number of cash registers are for sale at this show. The parking lot serves two purposes, first as a staging area for items being moved inside. This merchandise will be sold during the show, which is held in two buildings at the resort. Secondly, participants can pay a fee and set up in the parking lot without taking part in the show, which runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
We usually choose not to visit the show. We would rather head for home. On the return trip, we will have another cash register-collecting buddy, Milton, from Australia, whom I have spoken of before. He will spend a few days in Dayton, staying at our house.
On Saturday, we will visit the nearby Springfield Antique Show as well as the Springfield antique malls. On our way home we will make our normal stop at Hooters for a late lunch. By Saturday evening, I hope Milton will be able to work two of my registers.
The next day we will visit the antique mall in Cincinnati and the new one that opened in Dayton.
I hope Howard will feel up to entertaining Milton on Monday because I should be at work. Howard is being treated for cancer, and he is doing well.
Tuesday I will take Milton to the airport. He will be California bound. In the afternoon I must take Pauline’s brother to a doctor’s appointment.
Time to Say Goodbye
Soon our lives will be more hectic. Pauline and I received word this week that our offer to purchase a condo has been accepted. We have been looking for some time. It is not far from our present home and nearer to my office. It will be a struggle to determine what to keep and what to let go.
We already have determined we will purchase a new (to us) dining room set to maximize the space we have. We will construct a shelving unit in the second bedroom for books, computer and knick-knacks.
Our dog Jake will be moving with us. A grass area in the patio was a must for him to roam. Small but adequate.
