Re “Furlough Days Restored”

In a recent release, the Los Angeles County Office of Education was telling school districts not to expect an increase in their anticipated state funding.

Their explanation:

“Similar to local property taxes, districts’ State Aid (will be) reduced by one dollar for each dollar received from the Education Protection Account. The EPA becomes, in essence, a third revenue limit source in addition to local property tax revenue and State Aid.”

No Net Gain

So even with Prop. 30's implied campaign promises of additional state funding for our kids’ education, there will be no net gain for our School District in state funding.

Californians Flim-Flammed Again

I guess Californians forgot how, almost thirty years ago, in 1984, the state Legislature had suckered voters into passing the California State Lottery. I guess they didn't remember how, after it passed, the additional funding that was thought by voters to save our schools, somehow did not materialize locally. Only later did it reappear in the budget, pre-targeted by the state Legislature to be spent elsewhere.
