Dateline Dayton — Some weeks ago I wrote about the vicious dog attack here. A lady was mauled to death. Today I have an update. You are welcome to bring your vicious dogs to Montgomery County, let them run loose, even to the point of killing someone. You will not be charged with causing anyone’s death.
What a sad state of affairs. One of our do- nothing County Commissioners, and the prosecutor are working on changing the law so that a future grand jury can agree on charges. The Commissioner ran for office on a platform that he was not going to allow jobs to leave the County. Under his watch, many have left. I don't expect changes in vicious dogs laws. The prosecutor couldn't get a grand jury to indict the owners of these dogs and the Commissioner hasn't been able to stop the drain of jobs.
The City of Dayton is going after the dog owners. One has been arrested and still is in jail. The other is out on bail. They will be tried on a misdemeanor charge of letting dogs run loose. The estate of the lady killed, is pursuing civil action against the pair. With that in mind, you might only want to let your dog run loose in the County.
This tragedy never should have happened, as this lady tried to get help from the city, the county and the court system, to no avail. Many should be facing a real judge and not the bozo who didn't help protect her.
As for Sports…
When I thought the National Football League was finally taking some real action on abuse, another situation arose, the Minnesota player who beat his 4-year-old child. He was reinstated before being suspended. Will major league sports ever wake up?
If you punch out your wife, you are suspended. Beat a child to the point of blood, you may continue playing, because that is discipline. I have said before, you need to raise a child by the book. Once in a while you need to use the book, but only a book. Could it be that Ray Rice was only disciplining his wife?
Last Friday I was in a doctor’s office waiting on my wife. Another man in the waiting room said loudly “Women need to be slapped around every once in a while.” This is the mentality that pro football is fostering. !
I'm really upset that the NFL Players Assn. is getting involved in the Rice situation. It is sending the wrong message and will only further harm the game. It reflects the mentality of the players, who don't care about anything but money. Maybe all of them have had their heads banged too many times!
Congratulations to the Radisson Hotel chain for pulling their sponsorship in Minnesota.
I hope more will follow.
It appears that Radisson's action might have worked since the Vikings; owners have removed accused abuser Adrian Peterson from all team activities. Money talks. If more advertisers/sponsors would take Radisson’s lead, you would see a big improvement in major league sports.
