Supporters of Measure CC, the bond issue that will help repair a wide array of facilities across all of the Culver City Unified School District’s 10 school sites, will hold a communitywide rally and walk on Saturday, April 12.

Their motivation: To reach out to voters, encouraging them to support CC on the June 3  ballot.

The campaign committee welcomes everyone to join us at 9:30 a.m. at Carlson Park, on Braddock Drive, east of Overland Avenue, to get instructions, materials and maps of their walk areas. Groups will go out to every corner of the city to help educate voters.

We know that everyone wants our schools to be top-notch, and that includes our school facilities.

We are planning to go door-to-door to tell people about the incredibly positive benefits Measure CC will have on our schools and our entire community.

Walk Coordinator Jamie Wallace said no experience is necessary for volunteers. “Just enthusiasm and a good pair of shoes,” she said.

Following the Walk, volunteers are invited to join Yes on Measure CC for a barbecue at Carlson Park, beginning at 4:30.

To sign up to walk, contact Ms. Wallace at Jamie@imbob.net.

Leading up to the placement of Measure CC on the ballot, the School District conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the condition of all our school facilities and presented its findings in a Facilities Master Plan, which is available on the District’s website – www.ccusd.org.

The range of projects funded if the bond passes will include:

 • Repairing or replacing deteriorating school floors, walls, windows, leaky roofs, plumbing systems and rest rooms.
 • Bringing schools up to modern standards for fire and earthquake safety, removing asbestos, fungus and other hazardous materials, and install needed fencing, lighting, locks and security to keep students safe.
 • Installing or upgrading air conditioning, heating and air filtration to ensure healthy learning environments.
 • Upgrading and repairing aging school electrical systems, and replacing science labs and equipment so that our schools can offer modern classroom technology and computer science to students.
 • Providing the technological equipment and the modern classrooms necessary to ensure that all of our students are college and career ready.

The Facilities Master Plan outlines a wide array of projects at each a school site. Measure CC will improve the learning environment of all District students, preschool to high school.

“Unfortunately, because of cuts to education during the Great Recession, the condition of our school facilities has deteriorated,” said co-chair Kathy Paspalis. “Now is the time to do something about it. By passing Measure CC Culver City voters will ensure our schools are clean and safe, and that they provide a first-rate learning environment for our kids. Improving our school campuses will help preserve the high quality of life and strong property values residents enjoy.”

Measure CC is supported by all five members of the School Board and hundreds of Culver City residents. See www.culvercitykids.org.

The group is also seeking phone bankers for its get-out-the-vote campaign. If interested, contact Leslie Gardner at lgardner63@gmail.com.
