After nine years as CCUSD’s Superintendent I will be retiring. By notifying the Board of Education and community at this time, I am certain the Board will have ample time to find a new Superintendent, and they will conduct a comprehensive process to do that.
My last day will be July 31.
The Best Is in Culver City
I feel that CCUSD represents the best education has to offer.
Faculty, staff and community members in Culver City have a clear and unified vision of providing the best educational opportunities to our students so that they can achieve their goals. Over the past nine years, our schools have continued to excel. The curriculum includes a broad offering, from Japanese and Spanish immersion to technology.
Programs have expanded in fine arts, video and performing arts, and athletics. Facilities have been improved throughout our District as we have utilized our $40 million Measure T bond revenues that the community so overwhelmingly voted for.
However, what truly makes Culver City special are the people. I am deeply appreciative of the dedicated efforts of teachers, administrators, District staff and community members.
I have always looked at us as a family working together to achieve the best for our children. I am proud that those “children” have taken their CCUSD education into the world and grown into successful, well-educated and caring individuals.
I am constantly reminded of this when I hear about CCHS alumni returning to CCUSD as accomplished artists, aides, teachers, and more.
This kind of educational environment, however, would not be possible without the extraordinary support our District receives from scores of local businesses and volunteers.
Businesses like Sony Pictures Entertainment and See’s Candies have spent untold thousands of dollars working to benefit the learning experience for our students. Many, many other businesses have contributed as well, stepping in to pay for needed supplies at our schools, supporting our many clubs and athletic teams and donating books to our school libraries.
Volunteers Have Been Crucial
In addition, volunteers, like the Rotary Club of Culver City and the Culver City Lions Club, have been huge contributors in making sure our students have the health screenings they need.
Hundreds of other volunteers, from PTA parents to retired community members, do their part to improve our schools.
As a result of this true community effort, I feel that together we have done the best job possible for Culver City’s children. I am proud to be a part of the CCUSD family, and I thank each of you for this opportunity to serve as Superintendent.
This has been an extraordinary journey for me, and I thank you for sharing it.
