Dateline Dayton —Over the Labor Day weekend, we kept busy traveling from here to there, although not necessarily as we had planned.

On Saturday morning, we attended a visitation and funeral for the husband of one of Pauline’s monthly Breakfast Club participants. I also knew Harry. He and Janet were collectors, too, and I would see them at various shows. They also bowled in our church league when Pauline and I were on a team.

After the funeral we went back home to change clothes, since I still believe in wearing a suit, and then headed to the market.

Many Saturday mornings, you will find us at the market, especially to get treats for Jake from the Humane Society. We purchased some vegetables and other items from the various vendors. By the time we were ready to leave the market, we had accumulated a fair number of items.

Pauline was hoping to find wine she has been looking for, and she was told they would have it this week. They had the brand but not the exact kind. From the market, we went to a downtown store, but no luck there either.

The weather was very hot, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to do anything outside. After we got home, I suggested to Pauline asking my sister and her husband about a road trip. Anytime we go to a casino with them, it’s called a road trip.

They were willing, and promised to be at our house in an hour and a half. They were. Over the state line, there is a casino in Indiana that just changed its name from Grand Victoria to Rising Star. I needed a new card for my collection. Yes, another $15 card, and this time I didn’t win any money. By the same token, though, between the two of us we only spent $5, and we were there for an hour and a half. How’s that for big-time gambling?

On the way home we stopped to eat. It was a nice trip and I was able to get two cards, Pauline got one. In reality, I was able to cut the cost of each card to about $5.

Sunday started out as usual, with church and going out to breakfast. We had planned to attend the arts and craft show at the Kettering Government Center; however, it was raining.

I already was soaked from running to the car after church. As I neared the car, the rain really started coming down. We stayed home and out of the rain the rest of the day. I did manage to do some rearranging in the garage after my nap.

On Labor Day, even though rain threatened, we went to the arts and craft show. The day was ideal, and there were lots of people. The food vendors were doing a land office business. Pauline found a couple items she couldn’t live without.

Later in the afternoon Pauline’s brother came over and we cooked a couple steaks on the grill.

I hope you had a great Labor Day weekend, too.

We did live it up after dinner, going to the store to purchase dog food.
