Re “Making History: Teachers Reach a New Two-Year Agreement”

[Editor’s Note: An update for members from the president of the Teachers Union.]

Friends—

The tentative agreement between the Culver City Federation of Teachers and the School District was ratified last week.  The final tally was 115 Yes, 9 No.

This means that when we return to work in the fall, our salary schedule will be increased by 3 percent, and the amount CCUSD contributes to your health care premiums will increase by $300.

For the following school year, the salary schedule will be increased by 3.6 percent, and CCUSD will contribute an additional $400 toward your healthcare costs.

We are in the process of crafting contingency language, which will trigger a return to the table.

In a multi-year deal, CCUSD needs protection in the event that the sky falls. We need protection in the event that CCUSD's revenues and/or reserves come in higher than projected.

Both parties are committed to the shared goal of reaching the median of the 47 districts in Los Angeles County.  If other districts' settlements mirror ours and we are not moving up, this  also will trigger a return to the table.

The teams will meet in the fall and continue to work on our other proposals.

Thanks for your continued support.
