Zirgulis Roasted for Having Too Few ‘Friends’

Robert Zirgulis, the School Board candidate, never ceases to amaze me.

While Culver City is not perfect, usually stooping to bashing another candidate based on information discovered on Facebook, was off limits.

Apparently the week before Election Day, Mr. Zirgulis has chosen to take a few potshots.

Without regard to my own opinions, which are between me and the voting booth, I thought I would look up Mr. Zirgulis's Facebook page — and his myspace page http://www.myspace.com/robertzthebest

I'm pleased to report that Mr. Zirgulis has 10 friends on his private Facebook account — 3 of whom are named Zirgulis.

His Facebook page is locked. So we can't see who he supports or for that matter what he believes in enough to put on a social networking site.

Mr. Z has 1 friend on his Myspace account. I wonder why a man in his 50s would set up a Myspace account. The picture is very cool. Can't find him on Linked In, or on Twitter.

In fact, other than his recent newspaper campaign, there is not much of an electronic record to go on.

Moral: If you are afraid that you might now win a seat in a 6-way race, go dirty. A great lesson for our kids.

I plan to vote on merit and demonstrated ability in professional life.

I plan to vote for those who have shown a commitment to fairness and being inclusionary.

I may not support Acorn, but I do support any candidate who is open enough to allow Mr. Zirgulis the access to their Facebook page without editing it.

PS: Mr. Zirgulis, as a Republican, a parent and a grandparent, I expect better from candidates who propose to man the helm in this rocky economy. Shame.
