Re “Why It Makes Sense to Support Measure CC”

After disagreeing with him on the red light camera situation, there is one issue where Alan Corlin and I am in complete agreement.  I support a Yes vote on Measure CC, the school bond, in the Tuesday, June 3 election.

As a substitute teacher for over seven years, I have witnessed the deterioration in all our Culver City schools first hand.  I have had to teach in third grade classrooms when termites were swarming.  Water fountains don't work.  Some classrooms suffer from stifling heat with no air conditioning. The list is lengthy.

My only concern is that the money raised by Measure CC will be put to good use.  It would be a travesty to waste $10.3 million to tear down the Culver City school Natatorium (swimming pool) and replace it with a multi-purpose room for 80 students when it would only cost $3 million to fully restore the pool that could accommodate 6,500 students and the general public after school hours.

I hope common sense will prevail in both the passage of Measure CC and restoration of the Natatorium.
