The Culver City Democratic Club overwhelmingly passed the following resolution last night against red light cameras:
Whereas red light camera tickets can cost a driver up to $500, and they disproportionately hurt poor working class stiffs,
Whereas studies show that red light cameras cause the increase of crashes and injuries as drivers attempt to abruptly stop at camera intersections,
Whereas red light cameras enrich the camera company and not the city,
Therefore be it resolved that we urge the city to circumvent the state vehicle code and enact ordinances where red light tickets will be issued and processed at much lower rates. In addition, we urge the city to replace the red light cameras with alternative safety equipment that works!
The resolution will be presented to the City Council.
Out of 28 people present, three voted against the resolution. Meghan Sahli-Wells was one of the three who voted against the resolution and may find that her vote will haunt her in her bid for running for City Council in the future.
When prospective voters who have gotten these unfair red light tickets find out that she supports red light cameras, they will be enraged!
I got my 840 votes for City Council with only $400 in donations primarily because of the red light camera issue. Until Meghan repudiates her position, she can kiss at least 840 votes goodbye.
In fact, some people, including myself, hate these cameras so much they are willing to go into the streets and will protest by name any future candidate who favors red-light cameras.
