Why Not Follow Costco’s Smart Lead?

Some years ago, Costco eliminated 89 octane gas from its stations and passed the savings on to its customers.

Automotive engineers tell us that the vast majority of vehicles can use 87 octane, and that only a small percentage need 91 octane. No vehicles need the intermediate 89 octane grade.

Following Costco's example, if refineries would eliminate the production of 89 octane gasoline, those same savings also could be passed on to consumers and lower the price of fuel.
