Here is a copy of an email I sent to all members of the City Council:
We sure could use your assistance. Our league President (George Aceves), along with a number of parents and children, stood before you on Monday evening regarding the field improvement project at Culver City National Little League (Bill Botts Field).
At that meeting, [City Manager] Jerry Fulwood indicated he would be in touch with George Aceves right away. Jerry has not made contact, and George has made a couple of attempts to reach him.
Unfortunately, this is the pattern our volunteers and families have run up against for a number of years.
At a time of serious financial uncertainty, the volunteers of Culver City National Little League have stepped up to do their part. We have existing funds of $50,000 for this project. We were awarded a grant in the amount of $82,000 specifically for this project, due to the fact we were the only organization, among many considered, with matching funds in hand.
Combined we have $132,000 for this project that will greatly enhance a Culver City recreational venue. This venue is utilized by thousands of community members annually, including Little League and AYSO.
So, while we are providing the funding to enhance a Culver City park when the city doesn’t have the funds to do the job itself, why does the city continue to put up roadblocks.
I continue to hope, after four years, the city will finally become an active supporter of the project instead of an obstacle.
We look forward to breaking ground in mid-June. Don’t allow this project to slip another year!
Thanks,
Chip
