What We Have Here Is a Failure to Communicate

While I have been following with mixed reactions of the public discourse on School Board proceedings, I would offer only a few observations on handling the four capital improvement projects being resolved at last by the current Board.

It is a long and arduous process to shepherd construction works through a public works process.

Adding to this has been the required reading, the education of Board members in budgeting, state grants, incentives, etc.

This Board has engaged itself, there can be no questioning that, with hoops to jump through and landmines to dodge in public finances.

Okay, you knew there could be a catch.

It started to go south when, possibly knowing the proceedings are videotaped, efforts could have been better made to inform the public and community stakeholders.

It is with great hope that I applaud the recent turn that the Board and Superintendent are taking in presenting community meetings on the capital projects.

There is much at stake for students in their curricular and extracurricular activities, all the more important when faced with “right-sizing” these four projects fully meriting completion to some yet still-to-be-determined level.
