Re “The Police N-e-v-e-r Come When I Call

Culver City police always come when we call.

Perhaps the first thing the new LAPD chief, Charlie Beck, might do is pay a visit to our Culver City chief, Don Pedersen.

If I were a fly on the wall, my bet is that the conversation would go something like this:

LAPD’s Beck:
“Our residents complain that we never come when they call, but we are trying.”

CCPD’s Pedersen: “Like education, good policing takes a village. Our residents and our rank-and-file officers have mutual respect and goodwill that has been built upon for many years.

LAPD’s Beck: “What do you suggest? I am especially worried because we recruit from the neighborhoods, and nothing seems to work.

CCPD’s Pedersen: “Well, what worked for us was…”
