On Saturday night the Culver City Police Dept. held its annual retirement dinner.
Since I was the only person to retire from the Police Dept. in 2007, they did not have a 2008 retirement dinner.
I told them I would attend the dinner. But my 13-year-old daughter had a soccer tournament this weekend in Arizona. With my wife's poor health, she was unable to go with her ,and so I took her to Arizona.
My two sons, Andrew 22, and Daniel,10, told me they would like to go and represent me.
I gave them a short thank-you for the community of Culver City.
But they did not have the opportunity to deliver the message.
They both said they had a very good time. They said they were proud to represent me, and I was very proud of them.
I have attached the thank-you I gave to my sons, if you will publish it for the community:
“My Dad wanted me to thank the citizens of Culver City for allowing him to fulfill a childhood dream of becoming a Police Officer and servin this community for the past 31 years.
“He has received a lot of recognition for achievements over the past 31 years, but none are more important to him or remain with him, like the thousands of simple ‘thank yous’ that he has received from people in this community whom he has been able to help over the years.
“The excitement of police work comes from The Chase, The Arrest, and Solving the Crime.
“But in the end, the real, lasting satisfactions in police pork come from the people you help along the way.”
“Thank You.”
