Friends and Neighbors,

The Culver City Traffic Committee voted at last night’s meeting to deny CCUSD’s request for suspension of enforcement of permit parking restrictions adjacent to the CCUSD Quad-Campus area.

From the discussions, this request is in response to the complaints from those who were cited at last year's ceremonies.

It was my understanding that this was a first time-ever request, and community activist Cary Anderson applauded the fact that discussions were being held in this public forum.

Speakers were from the 10700 block of Farragut Drive. They described the existing day-to-day problems with traffic related to the businesses and CCUSD complex. For instance, when I got home from the meeting, two non-permit vehicles were parked on the 10700 block of Farragut Drive as well as an SUV parked in the alley behind Grace Lutheran Church.

I checked for an hour. In that time frame, there was no response from the Culver City Police Dept. to my request for a parking enforcement unit.

The Traffic Committee was influenced heavily, I believe, by the lack of representation from the requestor.

There was discussion about what the CCUSD would do to help themselves before impacting such a large area of residential neighborhood.

Had they considered using the parking lots at the Vets Auditorium Complex and the National Guard Armory and using shuttles? How much of the CCUSD Quad-Campus area would be used for parking for the1000-plus student graduation ceremonies?

I was glad to see that the Traffic Committee was thinking along the same lines as myself. I think they reasonably did not defer the decision to a later date because of the additional costs of re-notification to the public of another meeting.

For now the parking enforcement will NOT be suspended for the CCUSD graduation ceremonies; however, if there is an appeal, we will all have to participate in the decision-making.
