Re “Malsin Accuses City Hall of Miscalculations”
As a longtime labor and negotiations attorney (retired now after 50 years of practice), representing many local cities but never Culver City, the key word in City Councilman Scott Malsin’s essay is negotiate.
Can the city change your current benefit package?
“No.”
Can they negotiate it away?
“Yes.”
Believe me, some cities have tried and failed miserably. Orange County, the latest.
Now we have Council members, retired, and from what I've been reading, bitter ex-police officers, all chiming in with some sort of opinion to save the city.
It's the sign of the times, cities cashing in on the economic downturn.
Makes me want to get back to the arena and “negotiate.”
