[Editor’s Note: Ms. Anderson sent this letter of appreciation to Farragut School.]

I am so touched to have been honored at the Farragut Elementary School Art Works event this past Saturday.

This is the first year I was unable to attend. I was speaking in Manhattan Beach.

But I so wanted to be there, and I was thinking about all of you.

Thank you for recognizing me as a founding member of the Art Focused Education Committee.

What began in 2004 as a hope and a desire to re-integrate art-focused education back into the curriculum at Farragut has blossomed into art- focused education in the entire School District.

In Culver City, we can all be very proud that our schools offer our children visual art and music education as well as art appreciation (and at Culver City High School, the very successful Academy of Visual and Performing Arts).

The new art teacher at Farragut offers each child free expression of his or her talents. This year’s art exhibit displayed an excellent example of what each child is capable of. The art work was exceptional.

Now, more than ever, the support of parents and members of the community is required to keep these programs going.

With budget cuts affecting every possible program, it is vital that we dig deep and help where we can.

When I visited the exhibit for the family day viewing on Sunday, I noticed the in-kind donation tree.

Contact a school to see if you can donate in this way.

Schools need basic supplies.

Companies that are able could add a little extra to their own supply order and offer the schools a small in-kind donation.

All of our schools could use this help. We owe it to our children.
