There is an election on Tuesday, March 24, to fill the state Senate seat vacated by Mark Ridley-Thomas when he was elected County Supervisor.
One candidate, Assembkyman Curren Price (D-Inglewood), has inundated us with mailers and volunteers knocking on doors.
In just the past two weeks, I have received no fewer than 12 pieces of mail promoting Mr. Price. Plus, two days in a row volunteers have knocked on my door, wanting to confirm my support. The second volunteer had no clue that the neighborhood had been covered the day before.
In the past month, Mr. Price has averaged three mailers per week, and the election is eight away. How much more mail can I expect from him?
Having worked on several successful City Council campaigns in Culver City, I am painfully aware that it costs nearly $10,000 to get out one glossy mailer – just to Culver City.
The state Senate District is at least three times larger than Culver City. Mr. Price’s campaign (and his endorsers) have been sending out three to four mailers per week, for six to eight weeks,
Just how much are they spending on mailers? Who is paying for this?
This total over-kill has made me think.
If Mr. Price (and his campaign) cannot be fiscally responsible in promoting this campaign, do I really want him representing me in Sacramento? If he cannot be fiscally responsible regarding his campaign, how can he deal with the serious financial crisis in Sacramento?
If Mr. Price’s endorsers are spending so much money to get him elected, whose interests will he truly represent? To whom will he be beholden, the voters or the money behind his campaign?
Further, in none of Mr. Price’s vast pile of campaign mailers does he even mention Culver City, let alone address any of our issues.
Does he even know that we are not just another corner of Los Angeles?
Will I vote on March 24? Yes, because it is a civic duty and a responsibility I take very seriously.
Will I vote for Mr. Price? No.
