[Editor’s Note: For clarification this morning, the newspaper contacted School Board President Karlo Silbiger as the person at the vortex of the brewing School District controversy over parent-funded school volunteers, who have become the target of a threatened lawsuit by Debbie Hamme, president of the non-teachers union, the Assn. of Classified Employees.]

Here is what I have been sending to parents who write to me about this issue:

The School Board is in the early stages of considering this issue to make sure that we comply with all state and federal statutes and our collective bargaining agreement with our employees.

At the end of the day, we want the best-trained employees in the classroom with adequate job security and a living wage to support their family.

Once we figure out the available parameters, we will meet with the parents in ALLEM (Advocates for Language Learning, El Marino) and the union to move forward. By the way, I am a product of the SIP (Spanish Immersion Program) and will forever remember my great adjuncts Sra. Zamora and Sra. Galvan.

What incredible women.

Mr. Silbiger may be contacted at ksilbiger@juno.com
