When I spoke at the School Board meeting on Oct. 8, I did not realize I was being politically incorrect when I said I do not want our school children to be indoctrinated to believe that it is normal, or okay, to have a “two-mommy” or a “two-daddy” household.
Now that many of us have looked at Board candidate Kathy Paspalis's Facebook and see that she supports ACORN and LAMBDA Legal, and other undesirable organizations, we feel that she would not be a proper School Board member.
The candidates who have substance, experience, and common sense seem to be
Patricia Siever, Robert Zirgulis, Alan Elmont, and even Gary Abrams who just “says it like it is.”
Karlo Silbiger is a very good speaker. But he did not attend Culver City High School nor does he have years of experience behind him. Also, he does not have children who attend, or who have attended, our Culver City schools.
Somehow we have to instill self pride and behavior in our school children.
Of course it all begins at home but it also important is being a Cub Scout, Boy or Girl Scout, and then JROTC (or JNROTC) in high school.
Unfortunately, as dear as they were, Adele and Henry Siegel were instrumental in getting it discontinued a few years ago at our beloved Culver City High School.
What most people do not realize is that it does not mean military recruiting or service. Rather, belonging to JROTC instills self-discipline, personal responsibility, leadership, citizenship, pride in themselves and their country, a group effort to work together, and service to our community such as assisting with community events.
JROTC is taught by retired military persons such as Lt. Col. Ted McDonald and Major David Gibson. (My husband, Col. Paul Seehusen, is retired.)
Our School Board could enthusiastically promote this to the high school students. The uniforms are provided free. Half of the salary is paid by our U.S. government and half by the high school. So that means a teacher at half price.
Perhaps this program might help with the “bullying” problem that is going on in our high school, according to the School Board. Just maybe it would help to keep our kids from dropping out of school.
And that is what I think!!!!!!!
