With Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas scheduled to address the United Nations on Friday to seek recognition as a state, I have just received this important note that I wanted to pass along from Jahan Stanizai, President of the Culver City Area Interfaith Alliance:
Sunday afternoon at 2, Diana Buttu, former Palestinian legal advisor and former spokesperson for the Palestine Liberation Organization, will be speaking at the Culver- Palms United Methodist Church, 4464 S. Sepulveda Blvd., on the subject of Palestinian membership in the United Nations.
This event is presented by Jewish Voice for Peace-Los Angeles, losangeles@jewishvoiceforpeace.org, LA Jews for Peace and Friends of Sabeel.
Ms. Buttu served for several years as a legal advisor in negotiations between Israel and Palestine, the only female advisor within the two delegations. In 2005, she was appointed legal and communications advisor to Mr. Abbas.
She holds a BA in Middle East and Islamic Studies and an LL.M. from the University of Toronto, a JD from Queen's University, a JSM from Stanford University, and an MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management.
The event is open to the public, and admission is free.
