[Editor’s Note: The City Council this week was not of one mind as to how to resolve the Housing Division’s financial emergency, although Mayor Meghan Sahli-Wells did say: “All of us agree not funding the Housing Division is not an option.”.]

What was clear at Monday night’s City Council meeting was that Not Funding Housing Programs is something that the Council would like to avoid.

However, not funding is an option. No vote was taken Monday night that suggests that the housing programs are going to be funded…

Staff was directed to explore funding options for our consideration.  The Council is hopeful that funding alternatives can be developed that would enable us to continue housing programs without general fund implications.

If such can be developed, there is little doubt in my mind that the Council would move forward.

What, if any, housing programs we decide to fund if there are no alternatives but to use general funds, remains to be seen.
