Mielke Should Stop Being a Problem

I enjoy thefrontpageonline.com, and I enjoyed reading David Meilke’s letter about the School Board bargaining.

As President of the Teachers Union, does Mr. Mielke understand what is going on? Does Mr. Mielke understand that the state isn't paying as much for schools as before?

Does Mr. Mielke understand that he and his fellow teachers should be giving money back instead of taking raises every year? Does Mr. Mielke really intend to tell the Board that it was bargaining incorrectly when it asked for more days off?

As I understand, either the schools need to take furlough days or the teachers and principals need to take pay cuts, or a lot of people are going to lose their jobs.

If Mr. Mielke is upset about the way bargaining is going, then fine. The Board should just cut the number of teachers needed to balance the budget, and let those teachers who are now unemployed tell Mr. Mielke what they think. Oh, and the parents, too.

Mr. Mielke claims he's all about the students, but that can't be true, based on his most recent letter.

These are difficult financial times for all school districts. Mr. Mielke should stop being a problem, and start being part of the solution.
