The lights are on, for the first time, at the Culver City Dog Park.
After 11 years of fundraising and working with the city, the Friends of the Culver City Dog Park are pleased to announce the culmination of their dreams.
The dream to build a Dog Park in Culver City has been completed.
Through a generous donation by Nantworks, the Boneyard’s new neighbor, the Dog Park now has beautiful security lights to illuminate the grounds in the evenings.
Dogs and their owners will be able to use the park every day from dawn until 10 p.m.
“We are so happy to see this final piece of the puzzle fall into place for the Dog Park,” said Vicki Daly Redholtz, Chair of the Friends.
“We have been working for the last several years to not only bring lights to the park but to ensure that the lights are maintained and the costs are met for years to come.”
At a City Council meeting next month, the Friends of the Culver City Dog Park will present a check for $35,000 to be used for the lighting for many years.
Ms. Daly Redholtz estimated that the check would cover “at least the next 25 years.”
The Dog Park is a dream-to-reality project of the Friends, a community-based non-profit in cooperation with the city. With a Grant provided by the Environmental Protection Agency, dormant and polluted land was reclaimed and decontaminated.
A subsequent grant from the County was used to enhance the grounds and services.
Donations to the Friends provided the funds to complete the city-owned park, which opened in April 2006.
The Friends is proud of its fundraising work to bring the park to the community. The park is a sterling example of cooperative partnering of individuals, private organizations, government agencies and businesses working cooperatively.
The park is on Leash Lane at Duquesne Avenue, at the top of Culver City Park.
