Re “Malsin’s True Colors”
I have sat and read all of the back and forth regarding Scott Malsin’s decision to resign from the City Council midway through his term, collect his healthcare, and try again to run for Council.
While Mr. Malsin took an oath to serve, he also took an oath when he married and had a child. That oath was to protect and take care of his family. While his public service is an extra, a benefit for the community, his main obligation is to his family, as it should be with anyone in any industry.
Whether or not the publicity campaign, pre- resignation, was politically correct, the fact is he should not be painted as George Laase paints him, as someone who turned his back on the city. In fact, he always has faced forward, like his decisions or not.
The voting public should decide at the polls. The rhetoric dished out in anger by those who may volunteer occasionally, but not devote hundreds of hours a month to a job that actually pays below minimum wage when all hours are calculated, should not be throwing stones.
I respect anyone who enters politics. I respect anyone who basically volunteers his time to his city.
I do not respect someone who would be termed out, lose his healthcare protection, turn his back on his family, for the ego of finishing out a term.
Family first…
They will be with him long after he is termed out…
But that's just my opinion…
